Printing Friends Issue No. 7
Editorial Design for Printing Friends, the inspiring print magazine for creatives that’s not your typical design magazine.
BACKGROUND:
Printing Friends is a magazine about design and creativity which is published by the print house Danagård LiTHO in Sweden. Since 2010, the magazine has been designed around different industry related themes, but in 2014 it was time for something different. The new Printing Friends wanted to delve into themes that appeal to a wider audience, while still focusing on inspiring creatives. The magazine oozes vision, thoughts and creativity in a down to earth way. It contains everything from illustrations, photography, and typography to personal stories. Printing Friends is an influential, print-exclusive magazine where talent and creators collide and are showcased to inspire anyone with a creative bend.
THE CASE:
Issue No. 7 – Travel
For this issue, Printing Friends chose “Travel” as their theme. They travelled the world to feature sights and sounds and people to inspire their readers. Their travels lead them to feature a fashion photographer from Johannesburg, and a little mountain village with a population of 50 people in Hungary. They went for a swim with an illustrator at the rocky beaches of Cyprus, got to know what ‘southern hospitality’ really is in Austin, walked the creative streets of Buenos Aires, and ate horse sausage in Kyrgyzstan with another creative. Snask wanted to capture this wild, wild adventure through flourishing typography that was verdant, lush, and abundant on the cover. We contrasted this with a modern editorial layout that maintained the rhythmic pace of adventure packed with unexpected surprises.
