When Kandima Maldives first reached out to us, we first thought, “Cool, a hotel in the Maldives!” But Kandima, as it turned out, is is an entire island paradise. That’s right, the big, wet dream task of branding an entire island had arrived. Kandima Maldives is much more than just a destination. This new game-changing experience offers a seriously stylish island setting with “Kool” restaurants and bars and plenty of on-site activities to choose from. All on its very own atoll in the Maldives. When we got the brief, the resort wasn’t even built. But seeing aerial images of the actual atoll and the architectural renderings were enough to make us scream YES! to branding this unrivaled paradise.
Many resorts in the Maldives are luxurious and visually tend to come off as exclusive. Kandima challenges the status quo, backed by “smart, playful, rooted, responsible, human” values. They are a resort that welcomes guests of all ages from all around the world. Therefore, it was important to create a vibrant and inclusive brand, that could easily be dispatched all over the island and globally, with as much flexibility as possible to accommodate Kandima’s many offerings. Case in point: there are nine different restaurants and outlets on the island, so we designed nine unique logotypes and identities for each, giving individual attention and personality to the assorted destinations. Kandima also wanted a distinct symbol to compliment their wordmark. And if guests could draw it in the sand? Even better. We obliged. We also created a complete set of Brand Identity Guidelines, which we rolled it out onto the website, environmental graphics, and resort collateral such as bathroom toiletries, towels, key cards, printed guest materials, coffee cups, and more. The brand’s new design reflects Kandima Maldives promise of genuine hospitality, human touch, and smart solutions. Plus, it looks plumb “Kool.”
