Häng Konsten Lågt (Hang Art Low)
Book design with an edgy take on inspiring anyone and everyone to start their own art collection.
BACKGROUND:
When Swedish native Karolina Modig approaches Snask about designing her new book, we were naturally intrigued. Häng Konsten Lågt (Hang Art Low) is part guide book and part inspiration, laid out in gorgeous spreads to inspire budding art collectors – even those with a limited budget or lack of art history – to dive head first into art collecting. Modig takes you on her own personal ride of buying art for the first time and give interviews with prominent people in the art world, in order to lift the cloak from art and make it more available to everyday people.
THE CASE:
When designing the book, we wanted to keep the pristine aesthetics of a classic art book, but by adding an editorial touch to the design, we made it more accessible to a wider audience. The book’s Swedish title comes from renowned photographer Annika von Hausswolff, who said, “I always hang my pictures quite low in order to make you approach the pictures with your stomach rather than with your eyes.” By combining elegant typography and tactile graphic elements that nod to the act of painting, we think readers will also approach this book with there stomach rather than their eyes.
