Folkoperan – Love at Folkoperan
Art direction and stop-motion film for one of Sweden’s finest opera houses.
BACKGROUND:
Since 1976, the Folkoperan has passionately strived to give more people access to opera regardless of age, background or experience. Folkoperan sees opera as an experience for exploring how to look at the world. In 2011, they premiered The Marriage of Figaro as well as The Love Potion and called Snask to art direct and produce a memorable film to promote the theme of love in these legendary stories.
THE CASE:
Snask created a stop-motion film for Folkoperan, to promote The Marriage of Figaro and The Love Potion. But we didn’t want this to be just any stop-motion film. We wanted to our film to feel surprising, sensual, and above all else, unforgettable because that’s how romantic love feels. Over the course of four days, we filmed the entire piece. It turns out, sexually-aroused instruments are tricky to turn on, but Snask had the right touch. The sound was recorded with the help of the opera house’s talented orchestra, who provided erotic sounds with their flutes and violin strokes, under the conductor’s strict supervision of course. No instruments were harmed in the making of this film, but a few romances were ignited. Our creation was nominated for Best Animation at Roygalan in 2011.
